Elderly man found dead on pavement in Kottayam; police suspect murder

Kottayam: An elderly man was found dead under mysterious circumstances on the pavement of a shop in Mukkoottuthara here on Thursday.The deceased has been identified as Gopi, a 78-year-old lottery ticket seller. A head injury is deemed to be the cause of death. The exact cause of death will be officially established only after the post-mortem examination, according to the investigative team. The police suspect that he was murdered. A person suspected of involvement in the incident has been taken into custody by the Erumely police. The investigation has made it clear that the individual in custody assaulted Gopi. The police have also unearthed some wall writing near the location where the body was found, adding mystery to the incident.

Man beaten to death with bats in scuffle during cricket match

A man was allegedly beaten to death as he tried to intervene in a fight between his brother and other players during a cricket match in Delhi’s Bharat Nagar area, the police said. The victim was identified as Vishal Kumar who succumbed to his injuries, they added. A case of murder was registered and teams were formed to nab the accused. Kumar is survived by his wife and a one-year-old son, who live in the Pratap Nagar area. His younger brother and sister are students. Kumar worked in a cosmetics factory in Sadar Bazar, the police said. His younger brother was out to play cricket near their house after which there was a scuffle between Kunal and others, they added. Kunal called his brother to the ground and when he reached, he was allegedly thrashed by the accused with cricket bats. Kumar was rushed to the hospital where the doctors declared him brought dead. Mother arrested for throwing disabled son into crocodile-infested canal in India

A woman has been arrested in southern India for allegedly throwing her disabled six-year-old son into a canal infested with crocodiles after an argument with her husband, police said. The dismembered body of the boy, who had hearing and speech impairments, was recovered from the canal in the Uttara Kannada district of Karnataka state on Sunday. Savitri, 32, blamed her husband Ravi Kumar, 36, for forcing her to throw their child to his death, a local police officer told the Hindustan Times. Mr Kumar has also been arrested. UP girl kidnapped from village, raped for 2 months

A 17-year-old girl was kidnapped from the Ubhaon area of Uttar Pradesh's Ballia district and was taken to Karnataka, where she was raped for almost two months.
