The first phase of voting took place in Gujarat today. In 89 seats in 19 districts, till 5 pm, more than 59 percent people cast their vote. A total of 788 candidates were in the fray. These include candidates of Bharatiya Janata Party, Congress, Aam Aadmi Party.Out of 788 candidates who contested in the first phase, 21 percent i.e. 167 are facing criminal cases. Among these also, Aam Aadmi Party has maximum 36 percent tainted candidates. There are 211 candidates who are crorepatis. The average asset of crorepati candidates is Rs 2.88 crore. He is the poorest candidate Independent candidate from Rajkot West Bhupendra Bhavanbhai Patolia is the poorest candidate in the first phase. He has shown zero assets in his election affidavit.
