70% of brain tumors are fatal
You will be surprised to know that glioma, one of the most serious type of brain tumor, starts from two glial cells. Explain that 40 percent of all types of brain tumors are early brain tumors and 70 percent are fatal. These can occur in any part of our central nervous system and if it is not diagnosed on time then these tumors start growing very fast .
The treatment of a glioma patient lasts for 6 to 15 months and during this time he may have to go through the worst phase of his life. Also, apart from chemotherapy, he may also have to undergo a surgical tour.
Will help in early treatment
Dr. Rashmi Rana, the chief researcher of this study, says that this study is a potential biomarker towards early diagnosis of the severity of glioma, which is capable of identifying the galectin-3 protein. Not only this, with its help, treatment can be started soon by targeting cancer cells.
Test will be done without biting
Researchers say there is currently no way to detect glioma early. The biggest advantage of this technique is that no cutting is done in it and it helps in detecting future brain tumors. Researchers say that this method is very specific and sensitive.
Funds will be available from ICMR
Dr. Rashmi says that we have done trials on patients with grade 1, grade 2 and grade 3 brain tumors, which started in 2017. Our aim is to find ways to detect cancer early . We isolated the protein from patients' plasma. This technology is new and for this we have also received funds from ICMR.
Glioma can spread throughout the body
Glioma cells have the ability to grow and spread very quickly and can spread to any part of the body. It integrates very closely with the environment around us. Dr. Rashmi says that till now researchers are able to detect cancer only in the last stage. But our aim is to detect cancer in the first stage so that cancer can be prevented from spreading.
