Medical science has advanced a lot in today's time, but still it has been seen that there are some diseases which are not so easy to treat. Blood cancer is also one of them and it is also a type that is seen more in children than in adults. That's why it is also very important to know the symptoms of this cancer in children, so that it can be prevented from becoming serious in such a situation. Dr. Pawan Kumar Singh, Associate Director of Max Super Specialty Hospital and Bone Marrow Transplant Specialist gave some important information related to blood cancer in children. Dr. Pawan said that the type of blood cancer most commonly found in children is called Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia (ALL).
Symptoms of leukemia in children
According to Dr. Pawan Kumar, the initial symptoms of leukemia in children are very simple, which usually include weakness, fatigue, and body pain. These early symptoms are usually due to the deficiency of hemoglobin. Apart from this, symptoms like fever, frequent fever and difficulty in breathing can also be seen. If the infection has taken place in any part of the body, the symptoms usually include cough, diarrhoea, nausea, vomiting and bleeding etc., indicating the seriousness of the condition.
When the condition becomes severe, some other characteristic symptoms also develop such as bone pain, testicle size increase, lymph node size increase, headache and liver or spleen size etc. Swollen gums, swollen lymph nodes, double vision and bleeding under the skin (bruising) may also be seen in some children.
Investigation is done according to the symptoms (Leukemia blood test)
If the child is experiencing any of the above symptoms, a doctor should be contacted as soon as possible. According to Dr. Pawan, if any such symptoms are visible in the child, then he should be taken to the doctor as soon as possible. Depending on the symptoms, the doctor conducts CBC and peripheral blood smear tests, with the help of which anemia, leukemia, thrombocytopenia, and any abnormal cells can be detected. If any abnormality is found in the test, the sample is sent to a hematologist for further diagnosis.
