The Kerala government on Friday decided to completely ban the production of mayonnaise made from raw eggs. According to the information received, after a meeting with the stake holders, it has been decided by the state government that mayonnaise made from unboiled or raw eggs will not be produced and will not be served in hotels and restaurants. The state government has taken this decision to maintain the quality of food served in hotels and restaurants and keeping in view the cases of deaths due to food poisoning, reported news agency IANS. The raids followed complaints of hotels flouting key rules related to food safety. At the same time, Kerala State Health Minister Veena George (Veena Gorge, Health Minister of Kerala State) assured that strict action will be taken against those who violate the rules on the basis of complaints received against hotels and also issued new guidelines.
