Health News-Monitoring of breath and heart rate can be done very easily, scientists fitted sensor in T-shirt-mask.
Health experts say, to avoid the risk of such problems, all people should keep in mind the lifestyle and diet along with physical activity. It is considered most important to pay attention to breathing and heart rate, as any variation (increase or decrease) in these can increase the risk of many types of serious health problems. Keeping this in mind, the team of scientists has found a special method that will keep monitoring your breathing and heart rate all the time.
For this, Imperial researchers have installed sensors in T-shirts and face masks that track breathing, heart rate and ammonia. Their cost is very less. Researchers say that through this experiment, by paying attention to breathing and other vital signs in situations like exercise, sleep and stress, the risk of serious diseases can be obtained in time.
Experts say that these sensors will continuously monitor your heart rate, if it increases or decreases then you will be able to know it easily, with the help of which you can diagnose and treat the problem in time. This effort is being considered very good in the direction of prevention of increasing diseases of the heart and lungs.
Cotton based sensor PECOTEX
For this experiment, the team of researchers has installed a cotton based sensor called PECOTEX in T-shirts and masks. Its cost is $0.15 (about 12 rupees) equivalent to a cup of tea. The T-Shirts are fitted with more than 10 sensors, computerized embroidery on industry-standard basis, so that the wearer does not experience any discomfort. Heart-rate by putting a sensor in T-shirts, while the sensor in the mask will be helpful in monitoring the speed of breathing.
Monitors breath and heart rate
About this experiment published in Materials Today, researchers said that along with monitoring breath and heart rate, this sensor is also helpful in monitoring ammonia gas. Ammonia is a component of breath, through this it can help to monitor liver and kidney functions easily.
"During the experiment, we found that along with monitoring heart rate and breathing, we can also monitor sensing gases," says researcher Dr. Fahad Alshaboun of the Imperial's Department of Bioengineering. This can be helpful for future possible diseases and their diagnosis and treatment.
This sensor works like a smartwatch, researchers said that these sensors work in exactly the same way as smartwatches. The clothing in which these are fitted can be easily washed and cleaned, this does not affect the quality of the sensor. PECOTEX is high-performing, robust and adaptable to a variety of needs, says lead author Dr. Firat Guder, from the Department of Bioengineering. It is easily scalable, which means we can mass produce it using both domestic and industrial computerized embroidery machines.
Detection and treatment of diseases will be easier
Our research shows the way to simplify health monitoring with wearable sensors in everyday clothing, says a team of scientists. Monitoring of breathing, heart rate and gases can help in early detection and treatment of future diseases. Researchers say that at present good results of this experiment have been seen, we are trying to bring it on a large scale.
