Vaginal Gel It contains lactic acid, citric acid and potassium bitartrate, which alter the vaginal pH , making it more acidic. This means that it is difficult for the sperm to fertilize the egg. It is about 86 percent effective. It works for about an hour after applying it, but it won't prevent pregnancy if you use it after sex.
